The ideal candidate will have a background in the title and escrow industry, real estate settlement service regulations and compliance, or a desire to become well versed in them and to understand the title and escrow industry.

You will:

  • Serve as the company's head of legal, providing practical, risk-based advice to all levels of management regarding business challenges, corporate objectives, regulatory and licensing matters, employment law, litigation, and real estate.

  • Work day-to-day with our parent entity’s legal team and manage outside counsel to support the legal needs of the Company.
  • Oversee and manage the Company’s compliance programs and processes, including those related to title underwriting, escrow, licensing, and settlement services related regulations, as well as general corporate governance matters.
  • Collaborate externally with regulators and public authorities on an as-needed basis.
  • Prepare and deliver training and compliance presentations to employees and leadership.
  • Manage and lead different legal operations programs, including creating training materials, developing scalable processes and knowledge management systems, and legal budgeting

Qualifications:

  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school and membership in good standing with any state bar.
  • At least 10 years of experience in title and escrow services, real estate transactions, mortgage lending or title and escrow regulatory matters; either in a major law firm, an in-house legal department, or a combination of both; in-house experience and title & escrow experience are both pluses.
  • Experience managing teams of lawyers and legal professionals, including team budgeting, strategic planning, and career development, but you are still happy to roll up your sleeves and get the job done yourself if need be.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to solving legal problems and developing processes - you see a problem or issue, you attack it head-on.
  • Excellent commercial contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • A willingness to learn new areas of law, acquire new skills, and take on additional and/or new responsibilities within the team on an "as-needed" basis.
  • Confidence operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with and experience applying multi-state and federal laws and regulatory frameworks (e.g. TILA, RESPA, ECOA, GLBA, HMDA, UDAAP, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, CCPA).
  • You are a team-player with the ability to work collaboratively across various functions and with colleagues at all levels.

The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused and business-driven team player who is energetic and wants to be part of revolutionizing a trillion-dollar industry in a cutting-edge company.  Candidates with title and escrow experience are preferred.
