Our client, a well-funded, cutting-edge pre-public technology company, seeks to hire a lead compliance professional to join its top-notch and collegial legal team. Reporting to the Head of Legal with a direct line of communication to the Board of Directors, the Head of Compliance will be responsible for building out the company’s compliance program and also managing the day-to-day operational implementation of the program. This role has management responsibility.
The Head of Compliance will be responsible for building out a comprehensive compliance program including drafting and implementing policies and procedures and developing and conducting trainings. Specifically, this professional will:
- Work with senior management to ensure that employees and agents understand and comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
- Remain up to date on regulatory changes and industry best practices while keeping the business apprised of such changes.
- Interface with regulators and public authorities as needed, including supporting company positions by developing responses to compliance complaints, investigations and administrative proceedings.
- Manage two compliance professionals.
The ideal candidate will have experience building out compliance functions at fast growing companies in the consumer finance space (preferably lending). Our client will also consider professionals with a robust compliance background from other industries. Data privacy experience is preferred. The successful candidate will be a go-getter with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in complex organizations. Our client will consider both attorney and non-attorney candidates for this role.
This professional must be able to build a solution for the company while collaborating and building rapport with a variety of different internal and external stakeholders. Advice and strategy must be based on a practical approach to risk tolerance that allows the business to grow exponentially. This person should be able to see around corners and anticipate future issues. They should have the ability to effectively coordinate, motivate and mentor cross-functional team members to resolve complex problems. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills, the ability to interface with all levels of management and staff, and a great sense of humor are essential.
